Updated Website
Nov 2007: I've launched a new design for my site. It reflects my first winter in Colorado, my favorite pasttime, as well as Mt. Rainier, a landmark near my old hometown of Tacoma, WA. The large flags are of places I've lived, and the small ones are my nationalities.
New Job, New Home!Aug 2007: It's been quite a summer so far. I just moved to a place near Aspen, Colorado, in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. I'm working for a company that does residential audio, video, and home automation. We set up some pretty amazing AV, lighting, security, and climate control system, and I write software and do testing for these systems. We save the world one billionaire at a time!
Graduation!June 2007: I'm finished with my Bachelor's Degree at Walla Walla University! I graduated with a degree in Computer Science. I also have an awesome job lined up in Colorado which I will start in August. In the meantime, I will spend a month in Alaska visiting family.
Art's Projects
My Projects are the substance and the bane of my existence. I am one to take many projects on at a time, and though I am usually careful to prioritize and avoid taking on too many projects, I still have more than enough to keep me quite busy.
Current Projects I am undertaking:
- Home Automation Programming
- I work as a home automation programmer for a small comany in Colorado. We use specialty technology to provide simple to use, very high tech solutions to control electronic systems in high-end homes. Usually this involves control of lighting, audio, video, and other systems like security and climate control. I've also worked on some cool projects, such as web-based home automation control.
- Linux Administration
- This has become more of a way of life than a project. I run several linux systems, and I have found in general that once configured, Linux requires little maintenance, and keeps working nicely. There are always new programs I'd like to install or concepts to learn however. This eats more time from school than just about anything else, yet is more valuable to my career in a lot of ways.
- Klassica Classifieds Project
- I designed a very cool online classified ads web application, using PHP. It was designed as a solution to the burden of mass email. This project also served as my Senior Project. See http://klassica.wallawalla.edu. Soon I will also have this project up on SourceForge for public download.
- Various Outdoor Activities
- I am an avid skier. I love anything having to do with snow, actually. I also love to mountain bike, drive on remote mountain roads in my Subaru, fish, and explore new area. The natural terrain and environment of Western Colorado was the biggest reason I moved here after graduation in 2007.
- Religion, Philosophy, and Politics
- As for philosophy and religion, these are hobbies of mine, and I enjoy studying and discussing these issues. The only problem with them is that the more you learn about them, the more you realize you don't know. This type of study is a life-long venture, but they are definitely very important to living life the best way possible. Although I don't claim an affiliation to a particular religion or denomination, I've definitely had exposure to many, and love to study and discuss how religion, philosophy, and anthropology interact, and have shaped each other.
- The Good Old Work-a-day Life
- As mentioned previously, I work in the area of home automation programming, however, my long-term career goals involve general applications programming, espcially involving open source programming, as well as software project management.
